The city of Winter Park is making changes to the way they enforce parking. The Community Redevelopment Agency Board has earmarked funding for some new technology.
Consultants Kimley-Horn and Associates Inc. conducted a study that concluded Winter Park needs another official to enforce Park Avenue parking codes. They said the city has a perception issue when it comes to parking in their well-known shopping and dining district.
Kimley-Horn came up with a parking problem statement that highlighted the insufficient turnover of prime parking, the utilization of parking resources and the failure through policies and practices to meet community expectations. They also offered 12 different strategies that a municipality can use to improve the parking condition.
The CRA Board has instead decided not to hire that additional staffer. They are instead working to improve license plate scanning technology while also taking a second look at their parking codes.
100,000 has been set aside for the new changes. The City Commission will consider a graduated fine structure at a later date.
