One of the iconic symbols of the city of Windermere is their six-year-old tower clock. Many pictures of the town depict the familiar monument. The clock, however, is due to be replaced. For the past nine months, it has not been in operation.
Windermere Mayor Gary Bruhn first noticed that the tower clock was not working. City leaders have agreed to replace it for $16,300.
Some in town have stood in opposition to having a new clock made. They have cited the ease of access to telling time via phone clocks or wristwatches.
Concerns were countered by explaining that money for a new clock is coming from the Downtown Business Committee. The committee raises money for downtown improvements throughout the year with events like farmers markets and food truck meetings.
