The oldest building in Oakland is getting a new tenant. The certified-green soy candle company, Collective Kindness, is planning to open a second location at 4 S. Tubb St. The original store is at Plant Street Market in Winter Garden and owned by Liz Jennings and Leah Thompson. Collective Kindness has passed the first approval from the Oakland town commission.
They have approved the first ordinance reading to change the zoning of the half-acre property.
Currently, the location is appropriated for retail merchandise use. The building was built in 1860 and could be the oldest structure in Orange County. It has been a school and the home for Oakland’s first female mayor, Dewey Vick.
Collective Kindness sells candles and various home furnishings. They also have coffee and juices and host yoga sessions. Collective Kindness also donated a portion of the proceeds to local nonprofits. They hope to open their second location in February.
