There is no question that downtown Windermere is known as a condensed area. At times, it can be hard to find parking when heading to shops, restaurants, and businesses. The Town of Windermere is looking to find a solution, however. They are laying the groundwork to add a shared-use parking lot at the corner of Fifth Avenue and Forest Street.
Windermere Town Manager Robert Smith says the downtown area is currently short 16 commercial use parking spots. With the new lot, they would add 30-40 spaces.
The town worked with the First Baptist church of Windermere to get a lease agreement for the land. They still need to demolish two homes on the property.
The hope is that the additional spaces will prevent people from parking on rights-of-way. It will free up spots for town events and the weekly farmers market.
The cost of creating the new lot will run between $20,000 and $40,000. The hope is that it will be available early in 2018.
